Queen Nicole Poxleitner

Queen Nicole Poxleitner is the 18 year old daughter of Glenn and Loretta Poxleitner. She currently attends Prairie Jr. Sr. High School as a senior and has taken many dual credit classes through Lewis Clark State College. She has lived her whole life on the family farm in Keuterville where she has helped cut and haul hay. Nicole is also very active in her church youth group where she has participated in many hours of community service and has taken on many leadership roles. She believes that the best way to make a difference is to be an active member in her community.

Nicole’s favorite thing to do is ride horses. For her senior project she trained a horse which meant many hours of working and learning for each of them. She was also honored to be the 2015 Grangeville Border Days Rodeo Queen. Some of the other activities she enjoys in her spare time include participating in horse, lamb, and dog 4-H, camping on the Selway with friends, rafting on the Salmon River, going on adventures, and playing volleyball. After high school, Nicole plans to attend college at The University of Idaho in an agriculture related field.

Nicole has always believed that she can do anything she puts her mind to. During her reign she hopes to have a positive influence on the people that she meets and grow from the experience. Nicole would like to express her gratitude towards all those who support the Lewiston Roundup and its royalty.

Princess Alysha O'Connell

Alysha is the 18 year old daughter of Shawn and Shelly O’Connell. She graduated from Genesee High School this spring and is attending University of Idaho this fall. She is working towards double majoring in Animal Science and Business. She has lived in Genesee her whole life and has been riding horses ever since she was a little girl. She’s been a member of her local 4-H and FFA Chapters showing sheep and steers and has won many high place ribbons. Alysha has been involved with the Lewiston Roundup for the past 4 years carrying sponsor flags. In her free time, she loves riding her horse, working on the family ranch here in Lewiston, visiting family in Montana, and spending time with family and friends. Alysha is riding her 14 year old dun paint gelding, Spirit. “I’ve had the most amazing time of my life traveling with Nicole and Maggie this year representing the Lewiston Roundup and the Big 4 Rodeos.” They have said it for 83 years “She’s Wild!”

Princess Maggie Chmelik

IMG_8485

Maggie Chmelik will be serving as one of the 2017 Lewiston Roundup Princesses.  She is a determined 18 year old senior at Grangeville High School. She is an Honor Roll student who is certified in CPR and First Aide, as well as CNA. Maggie is involved in HOSA, Track and Field, and Youth Group. She has worked as a waitress, sales associate, and is currently employed as a CNA at Syringa Hospital in Grangeville. Maggie is very interested in leadership activities, prompting her success as the Grangeville Border Days Queen and Lewiston Roundup Princess. She currently serves as Secretary in her local 4-H club and has been decorated as the Reserve Grand Champion in Dog Obedience. In the summer of 2016, Maggie traveled to Wassaw Island, Georgia to take part in a Caretta Research Project. During her time there, she helped to rehabilitate endangered loggerhead turtles; an experience she will never forget. In her spare time, Maggie is involved in community service projects and visits the local Rehab Center, and rides her horse who is a 15 hand buckskin quarter horse gelding. She got her horse “Bud” when he was 8 years old from Becky Higgins who got him from Bar Double Dot Ranch. She loves nothing more than to spend time with her horse Bud and her dog Kelsey.

She chose to involve herself with the Lewiston Roundup Royalty because it has been one her lifelong dreams since she was little. She wanted to be the rodeo princess that all the little girls looked up to like she did when she was little. With her experience from the Grangeville Border Days Royalty she decided she wanted to continue her rodeo royalty journey. She says that since becoming Lewiston Roundup Royalty has been one of her most life changing experiences, and she is more than excited for the rest of her royalty year with Queen Nicole, Princess Alysha, and her chaperones Darryl and Charli, and the rest of the Roundup family.

Grand Marshall - William Vern McCann Jr.

William “Bill” Vern McCann Jr. is married to Lori. He and his wife have four children, and nine grandchildren.

Bill McCann, Jr. is a native of Lewiston, Idaho, having graduated from Lewiston High School in 1962. He attended the University of Idaho, graduating with a B.S. in Business/Marketing in 1966, and receiving his J.D. from the University of Idaho, College of Law, in 1969.  He set up his law practice in Lewiston upon graduation from law school, and remains a sole practitioner.  Today he practices law about 20% of the time and has a general practice with emphasis on real estate, probate, estate planning, and corporations.  The remaining time is devoted to his family corporation, McCann Ranch & Livestock Co., where he manages and develops commercial property, and oversees the day-to-day operations of a cow/calf operation where they run approximately 350 head of mother cows, and he and his wife, Lori’s personal commercial and rental properties.  He took over as the President of the corporation upon the death of his father.

Bill has always been an active servant. Having served as Student Body President of Lewiston High School his senior year, and also as the Associated Student Body President of the University of Idaho, while an undergraduate.  Bill is a past president of the local Clearwater Bar Association and the Idaho State Bar Association.  He has been actively involved in the Lewiston community.  He is the past president of the Lewiston Chamber of Commerce, chairman of the Lewiston-Nez Perce County Airport Commission and currently sits on the Board of Directors of Valley Vision.  He is a past officer and member of the Board of the Idaho Community Foundation and is Past President and currently a member of the Board of Directors of Delta Dental of Idaho.

Rodeo Involvement:

Bill has been an active member and long-time supporter of the Lewiston Roundup Association. From a very young age he has  loved the Lewiston Roundup.  He remembers attending the rodeo with his family, who were active members of the Farming and Ranching community in and around the Lewiston area.  His father was honored and served as Grand Marshall in 1993.

Bill, Jr., became a member of the Board of the Lewiston Roundup Association in 1971 and was a very active member until 1992. He served as the organization’s youngest President in its history in 1978-1979.   In 1980, Bill served on the negotiation committee for the sale of the old Lewiston Roundup Grounds to the Port of Lewiston. (This sale was necessary as the Port of Lewiston had the power of condemnation and was going to condemn the facilities if a reasonable price could not be achieved.)  The property was sold in 1981 to the Port of Lewiston and during that time Bill, Jr., served as a member of the committee to find a new rodeo site and was instrumental in negotiating for the present 80-acres that the new Lewiston Roundup facility sits on. He is very proud of the fact that in 1981-82, he served as Co-Chairman of the Facilities Committee which built the new grounds, at the time being a new $2,000,000 facility for the Lewiston Roundup Association.  During this time he personally served on a daily basis to be in contact with the facilities during the time of construction for which no remuneration was received by him or any other member of the Board.

The Board called this project, “All New in 1982!”  During that same year, he served as the National Sponsors and Awards Chairman for the Lewiston Roundup Association, successfully having Lewiston selected as one of the 20 locations for the Wrangler Professional Bullfighting Competition and securing Lewiston as the Nestea Regional Finals and Lewiston again was one of the Winston series Rodeos with the Winston Score Board Package and the Winston seat cushions. That same year he was also responsible for the printing and assembly of the program and the day sheet which sets forth the order of events. Eight more pages were sold in the program than were ever sold before and the program was approximately doubled because of the increased advertising and revenue.  In addition he was successful in securing Miss Rodeo America’s attendance at the Roundup, which had not happened for some number of years. Later that same year, Bill, Jr., was selected and honored as the Sam Reed Memorial Award Winner, which is the Outstanding Rodeo Committeeman in the Nation.  He served again as President of the Lewiston Roundup Association in 1985-1986.  Bill Served as Lewiston Roundup Association’s Legal Counsel from 1970 through 1992; served as Royalty Chairman for two years; Street Decoration Chairman two years; Barrel Racing Chairman for three years; Advertising Committee one year; Co-Chairman of the Relocation Committee; Chairman of Facilities Committee; Vice President of the Roundup Association 1977-78; Member of the Executive Committee for twelve years; attended 14 Big Four Meetings; attended eleven PRCA Conventions; He was instrumental in promoting the idea of having a part-time paid secretary and full-time general manager of the Lewiston Roundup Association.  Bill is also very proud of the fact that he was the “Voice” of the Lewiston Roundup, being the local announcer from 1986 to 2009.  He is an Honorary member of the Board of Directors and is very proud of his involvement in the LRA.
